We all view the TVs, perhaps without exception of very young children or old timers!
How many times we tell ourselves that product advertisements thrust upon us are not right, or exaggerating the claims of benefits if we buy them? Now think and ask yourself why we did not lodge a complaint to the advertiser company?
In the internet age, it is very convenient to send an email to the company or the Advertisements Regulator about false claims.
There are times when Restrictive Trade Practices Regulator can be approached.
Last but not the least, there may be Citizens' Forum, Consumer Protection Association in our area whom we can approach, by just picking up the phone/cell phone and inform what we think on a particular matter. They will guide us about the proper course of action.
2. We are used to paying premium year after year for Medical Insurance/Mediclaim. One day, when we have to be hospitalised and perhaps operated upon, we call up the insurance agent and tell him/her that the claim has to be made for medical treatment. He/she does the best, but at the end of the rope, the insurance company either refuses to settle your claim in full, makes partial payment only or just refuses on some grounds. Nowadays, they have a good instrument to save: Pre Existing Disease.
There a number of cases refused on this single ground alone. I request you to refer to the Supreme Court judgement, wherein it is mentioned that if there is an uninterrupted relationship of paying regular premiums and if a disease develops then the insurance company cannot refuse payment of claim.
I am associated with one Consumer Protection Charitable Trust, viz. Surat Citizens' Council Trust, serving the community for over two decades and taking up the cause of common man. If you are in Surat or surrounding area please get in touch through to me.
There are many issues on which we can exchange views, compare notes and help our brotheren, including helping the needy patients. But that will be taken up in due course.
